How my videos where killing my marketing.

In this article I want to explain how my videos where stealing my traffic, costing me money, and killing my marketing.

Well that’s a bit misleading actually. It really was not my videos, it was more the video hosting I was using. Let me explain:

We all know at this point that every marketer needs to use video in their business. This is not 1999 anymore, people expect video. The days of having a squeeze page with nothing on it but a e-book cover and a optin form are long gone. Most customers only read about 1/3rd of a sales page but watch 80% of the sales video. Frankly if you are not using video in your marketing you are far behind the times.

I understood this early on when I was building my 7 figure per year online business and I used video almost from the start. The only question I had when I initially started was where do I host my videos? YouTube was the obvious answer. Their platform was solid. The video hosting was excellent. It was totally free. Also YouTube allowed me to make videos private and embed them on my site, which made it perfect for training videos, squeeze pages, sales pages and all kinds of marketing. Even better YouTube had options that allowed me to turn off all the social sharing features of its video player, things that I did not want because they would distract people from my marketing message.

But then it happened. In 2018 YouTube stopped being a viable option for people doing marketing. Especially if you are building a list, selling a product or doing any kind of training. What happened? Well as I said, initially they allowed you to remove the social sharing features in the video player. As of mid 2018 this was no longer an option.

Above is one of my ‘review’ videos on this very blog. This video is inside of a post where I am testing and reviewing another developers software. I found the software to be good and I was hoping that some people would buy it though my link after reading my review and watching my video. Basically this is a video that I was using to do affiliate marketing.

Now as I sad, prior to mid 2018 YouTube had an option to remove the social share aspects from their player. But now that option is removed. Now every YouTube video has 8 links right inside of the video player that are designed to do one thing and one thing only. To steal your traffic. Those links are designed to distract your site visitor from your message and get them over to YouTube?  Why? Because YouTube is a business , and like any business they want to make money, and in order to do that they need people on their website, so they want to take your traffic and make it their traffic.

In this video there are 8 links right inside of the video that take people away from my site and to YouTube. Three of those links go to my personal channel, somewhere I dont want them to be because if they are on my channel they are not clicking my affiliate link, opting into my signup forms, or buying my product. One of those links goes to the YouTube page for this video, somewhere I also dont want them to be for the same reasons. Four of those links are other peoples videos that can totally distract my site visitor and make them forget all about me and why they where watching my video in the first place. Yikes!

While YouTube use to be a viable option for marketers the truth is it no longer is. Now YouTube is designed to do one thing. To take your site visitors away from you and get them over to YouTube. Well let me ask you this? How can you make money, build a list, or get clicks to your affiliate links if you are using a video hosting that is designed to harvest your hard earned traffic? Simple, you cant. Now I am not saying YouTube is a terrible thing it for sure has its place to build your brand and get a following, but if you are doing any kind of marketing, with video on your personal domains and pages (which you should be) then YouTube is not the smart choice.

Because YouTube is no longer an viable option for internet marketers I started looking for an alternative. Unfortunately I could not find an acceptable one. Everything I found was expensive, did not have the features they wanted, and had all kinds of limits. So being that I am not only a successful internet marketer but am also a very experienced software developer I created my own system.

Now I could tell you all about Vidyz but probably the best thing to do would be to let you see it for yourself. Because of this I decided to give away full access, with all the features unlocked 100% for free. A quick note about the reviews I do on this site. The product vendors give me access to their products for free in order for me to do my review. However I make no promises to them regarding the results of my tests or what I will write in my review. Should you click a link that takes you to a sales page for a paid product for sale this link will be an affiliate link and I will be paid a percentage of the sales price should you decide to invest in it.
