Need to make money fast? This is what you should do!

When I first decided to go full time in the IM business I committed myself to being honest. Honest in my reviews and honest in my training. Now this does not mean that I am never wrong, because like everyone else I am human and I make mistakes to. But I am never intentionally deceptive, even when doing so would get me financial gain or otherwise benefit me.

One of the most common questions I get asked is “How can I make money fast?”. This question comes in many forms, but that’s what it really comes down to. The person asking wants to know how they can make cash, in their pocket, super fast, normally anywhere from within a few days to a couple of weeks. In fact I was asked this question twice just this weekend, which is what prompted me to write this article.

Now I could take the selfish route. I could send them a link to one of my paid products, Profit Canvas perhaps, which has training as well as software, or Bretts Circle or IM Insider or even to the high ticket coaching I do with my business partner Mike (from Maine). I could also get them signed up for a webinar that pays me an affiliate commission or send them over to some other product that will pay me for the referral. But I never actually do that because doing so would violate rule #1 .. BE HONEST!

Instead I tell them the only real, truthful, honest answer I have to give: get a job. Now this might sound like I am blowing them off or giving them some shitty response but this is probably the best response that most people who ask the question “How can I make money fast?” can get. Let me explain:

Hundreds of sales pages, marketing pitches, and internet videos have people thinking that the internet marketing business is a way to easy cash, to tons of  wealth, and to the  3 hour work week. Well guess what it is.  You can make some really easy money online. In fact the other day I spend 3 hours testing a product and 1 hour writing an article about the results of my tests and I made just over $1600 from that effort, which let me tell you was a hell of a lot easier than working at some job. That’s $400 per hour that I got paid, and I earned more than a lot of people make in a week so I really didn’t have to work any more if I did not want to (ok that’s a 4 hour work week not a 3 but whatever lets not split hairs). Also in the 4 1/2 years since I devoted myself full time to my online business I have generated over 3.8 million dollars gross and earned a net profit of $1,349,000 … that is internet marketing made me a millionaire (in under 5 years).

So you might be wondering, if everything you hear on all of these sales pages, videos, and posts is true why would I tell someone to get a job? Well because of the one thing that is always left out. Time! You see the IM business takes time, it takes dedication, it takes consistency and it takes a lot of effort. Regardless of what someone selling some newfangled training wants you to believe the IM business is just that, a business, and like any business you are going to start in the hole (in the red),  and you have to build yourself up over time to get to the point where you can actually get the benefits of a successful business.

Let me make one thing super clear: If you are struggling financially, if you are in need of money as soon as possible, the IM business WILL NOT save you. In fact telling someone like that to get in the IM business is probably the worst thing you could do. Think about it. If a friend came to you and said “Hey I am barely making my rent each month what can I do?” would you tell them “You should open a restaurant!”. Probably not because your friend is not in a position to be starting a business. He will be underfunded, in a risky situation, will be stretching himself super thin, and will likely fail. Well the IM business is no different, its just like any business, its not something you should be trying to do if you are struggling.

What you should be doing if you are struggling is looking for a job. Now before you tell me to piss off for saying the “JOB” word let me clarify. I am not necessarily talking about going down to the unemployment office or stopping by your local work a day. Though these may be a viable option if you are healthy and if there are such opportunities open to you, there are plenty of ways to make money online that are not in the ‘IM business’.

One thing I personally did, for a number of years, was work as a freelance software developer. I wrote code, often short scripts, or did bug fixes for online clients that I met on sites like VWorker and Elance. I also made a decent living doing this (about $5,000 a month). Ok so you might not be a software engineer, but that does not mean that you cant do online freelance work. Every day people and companies pay copywriters, editors, graphics designers, video editors, audio guys, spokes persons, voice over actors, advisers, and tons of other people providing services on a bespoke basis. Anyone can find jobs like this on sites like Freelancer, Fiverr, and others. In fact each year I personally pay freelance contractors tens of thousands of dollars and not one of  them is doing coding for me. The truth is that the internet is a HUGE place and if you have any kind of skill set there is probably someone, somewhere, who is willing to pay for it.

Some people claim that internet marketing is a way to build more wealth then you ever though possible, and the truth is, it can be. Way back when I worked as a carpenter at the casket company (click here to read my story if you didn’t know that)  I was earning around $14 per hour on average (it was a piece rate job).  Thats about $28,560 a year. In the last 4 1/2 years I earned what would have taken me 47 years at that job. However it is NOT a way to make quick money, its also, despite what some people say not for everyone. Some people just don’t have the fortitude (for lack of a better word) to work their assess off without reward initially to benefit later.

If you need cash now, or cash quickly what you need to do is get a job. What that means depends on your specific circumstances. It might mean doing some freelance work on Fiverr. It might mean heading to a work a day and picking up a extra days pay. It might mean asking your boss if you can do some over time on Saturday. No mater what though it does not mean starting a business, thats actually counterproductive. Instead do what you need to do to get that extra cash and get yourself into at least a more stable financial position, then come back and start thinking long term, start thinking about starting your online business. I will be here waiting for you. See you then!

A quick note about the reviews I do on this site. The product vendors give me access to their products for free in order for me to do my review. However I make no promises to them regarding the results of my tests or what I will write in my review. Should you click a link that takes you to a sales page for a paid product for sale this link will be an affiliate link and I will be paid a percentage of the sales price should you decide to invest in it.

Is what I’m wondering, like Einstein said, if you like different results do something different, that means to me Stop trying and spending time and money, you can be rich doing another things, but no, I’ll persevere, God bless you all.

    Hey Brett,

You said it like it is, one thing everyone needs to understand.

Like the California gold rush, thousand of people thought they
were instantly going to strike it rich over night.

IM is no different than those days. It takes planning, tools and
a lot of strategic work to find that first nugget which good be
months or even years. For some not at all.

So before you start following the sure deal character that claims
he knows the fast way to online success. He means take your
money and give it to him, then he’ll be rich and you’ll still need
    to get a job.

Brett’s been one the most straight up guys I’ve dealt with on the
    internet.

    Thanks for sharing Brett…

    Tom

    Hello Brett

Very true, I had false expectations and I realized developing this take time and effort before you actually start seeing big money. However in the long run it pays off. So one has to hang in there.

It would be helpful to write about a step process to get the IM business running.
That would help newbies know all the work that needs to be done to start making money in this business

    Thanks for the Honesty

    Hey Brett,
    The words that stand out:
“IM Business takes time, it takes dedication, it takes consistency and it takes a lot of effort.”

Not click here and Instant cash. 🙂
Thank you for taking the time to write this Content of value.
    Regards,

Brett we would like to see more articles like this once in a while, in between your promotions. It is very helpful.

Honestly I dont write them as much as I use to because when I email training articles I get more unsubscribes (and less interaction) than when I email a promotion. In short people, in general, tell me they dont want to be taught. I do like writing training articles though 🙂

Yep, I’d say fiverr is one of the best ways to keep yourself earning a little extra cash.
When you have enough money, come back and learn from Brett, like he said, he’ll be here waiting for you.

    🙂

Yeah! Get out there and work peeps. I’ve been cashing off Fiverr now for a while now doing VSL videos and email campaigns for companies. Totals sales right now is $4,108 and to be honest it’s not my full-time gig. In fact, half the time on there I’m in vacation mode because I’m too busy working on my own products. But if I need some extra cash I can always get it there.

I, for one, am back. I realized that something must have changed and I have not been seeing your emails. Thanks for telling us like it is. I appreciate words of anyone who has been where I have been, and who IS where I intend to be.

Very honest ant truthful article. Like that. I haven’t join your courses yet but this article thrives me to get in with one or both of you courses. Long term sounds far away but also exciting and serious if your goal is long term money with long term customers.
I bought MyMailit today and it is a good start in my long term business. Thank you Brett for this article.
